The idea of International Water Day started in 1992, to raise public awareness about one of the essential elements of our ecosystem i.e. water and its benefits. Every year World Water Day is celebrated to take concrete action in terms of preservation and conservation of water resources. The celebration aims to create awareness of water and its resources, which are crucial for the survival of living beings on earth.
Department of Civil Engineering, PEC celebrated World Water Day on 22nd March 2022 in the senate hall. Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, Prof. Siby John, Deputy Director and Prof. Umesh Sharma, Head Civil Engineering Department graced the occasion. Dr Harpreet Singh Kandra, Faculty, Federation University, Australia was the Guest of the event. In his welcome address, Dr Umesh Sharma gave inputs on the importance of water scarcity at a global level. He sought from PEC students a commitment of not wasting a drop of water. Prof. Baldev Setia, having a vast experience in water resources interacted with the participants on the critical issues related to water management. He requested the PEC Campus residents to use sprinkler system for watering the plants/lawns. Prof. Setia also shared success of “Har Ghar Jal” scheme initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He also enlightened the participants of various treaties of India with the neighbouring countries. Prof. Siby John discussed the myths/realities on water quality and shared several real-life experiences. Dr Harpreet Singh Kandra, enlightened the stakeholders about water security and circular economy. Faculty and students of civil engineering attended the event in the department.
