Punjab Engineering College(Deemed to be University) Chandigarh is organizing various technical workshops/conferences related to different aspects of engineering. The Digital Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP) cell at PEC Chandigarh organized one day workshop titled “Basics of Geospatial Techniques” for the officers/officials of Revenue Department under the Chandigarh Land Records Modernization Society (CLRMS) under the Project DILRMP, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, GOI. Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS (Home Secretary, Chandigarh) chaired the workshop and highlighted the technical issues in generating maps using conventional techniques. Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, IAS (Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh), motivated and persuaded the participants to understand the need for the importance of digital mapping. Dr. Baldev Setia (Director PEC) emphasized the collaboration of the academic institute with the industry. At the same time, Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu (Coordinator & Faculty, PEC) shared that the primary mandate of the workshop is to create human resources for this upcoming field, which is an essential parameter for the smart city.
The event was kickstarted by the interactive session on the Geographical Information System (GIS) by Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu, who has vast experience in the related field. He discussed the intricacies, advantages, and various case studies. Dr. Gaurav (Professor, Department of Geography, PU Chandigarh) enlightened the participants in the area of Remote Sensing.
Dr. Yunus Ali (Asst. Prof., IISER Mohali) discussed the myths and misconceptions regarding the freely available software.
The closing ceremony was graced by Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS (Home Secretary, Chandigarh). He appreciated and encouraged the PEC Team for organising such practical sessions and motivated the participants to learn and implement the Geospatial Technology in their respective office works. In his closing remarks Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu (Coordinator & Faculty, PEC) thanked the Chandigarh Administration, PEC and participants. He also lauded the efforts of the student coordinators (Mr. Rajan Dabral, Mr. Ankur, Ms. Sonal ) for organizing the event of such magnitude.
