Dr. Yuji Nishikawa, India Liaison Representative, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) visited PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh on 22nd July, 2016. He was hosted by Department of Applied Sciences. The Dean Research, Dr. Satsangi welcomed Dr. Yuji Nishikawa and Dr. Vasundhara Singh Head Applied Sciences informed about PEC and gave a brief account of the Deptt. Dean Alumni Prof. Gogna Gave a detailed account of the contributions of the PEC alumni in promoting research and start ups in PEC. Dr. Yuji Nishikawa delivered a presentation about the Programmes of JST and particularly about the Sakura science Plan (SSP) which will be important got the Engineering students at undergraduate and Post graduate students including young faculty at PEC below the age of 40. He presented the progress report of JST for faculty and students. He emphasized on many schemes initiated by Govt. of Japan for joint programs in research with the Researchers, Universities, and Private companies in India. He also discussed about the projects viz. SATREPS, SICP, SAKURA and SICORP which are being worked upon in collaboration of Indian and Japanese Researchers and industries. He mentioned about the interaction of Govt. of Japan with Indian funding agencies namely, DST, MHRD, etc. An interactive session was held between him, faculty from various deptt including Head, Deptt of Production, Dr.N .M Suri and Head, Deptt of Electronics Engg, Dr.Neena Gupta. A visit to the centre of excellence in Industrial design was also organized. PEC looks forward to student and faculty exchange with Japan in areas of IT, Materials and Manufacturing as suggested by Head, Applied Sciences.
