A Delegation from US Embassy visited Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh for collaborations in the area of higher education, academic exchange and research activities in the United States. The US Delegation consisting of Ms. Catherine Fischer, Public Diplomacy Officer and Sonal K Abbey, Cultural Affairs Assistant (Outreach) of the North India Office of US Embassy, New Delhi met head of the institute, Director Dr. Baldev Setia, Deputy Director Dr. Siby John and Head CDGC Dr. JD Sharma where discussions were held on the execution plans on the collaboration. The Director of PEC extended all support for active participation at PEC and the upcoming events at PEC will be represented by US representation in the near future to carry this collaborative effort forward.
In this regard, the Delegation met Head, Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC), of PEC Dr. JD Sharma and faculty to discuss the strengths of PEC in academics, research placements and internships. This was followed by an interaction with students. The delegation was welcomed by the students’ team of CDGC. The interactive session was attended by 80 students in offline mode and the event was also telecasted online for the rest of the students and faculty interested. The opportunities at US universities were shared with the students for pursuing Masters and Doctoral degrees in the United States. The session also covered topics like scholarships available, grants initiated in recent times by US and financial aid to the students, including visa processes.
The aim of the session was to give the students an insight about opportunities of studying in US and its prestigious institutes. Students were also given an insight about the cutting edge research facilities and state of the art equipment housed by the colleges and universities there.
The session also included a Q/A round in which the students could ask their doubts, clear queries related to the admission process and get to know about the opportunities that the government provides them.
The visit will result into academic, cultural, research and entrepreneurial collaborations of PEC with US universities and industries.
