A two day workshop on Medical Applications of 3D Printing was organised by Centre of Excellence in Industrial and Product Design from 09th -10th March, 2017. The workshop attracted and was attended by a number of participants from industry, research organizations like TBRL and students from various institutions like PGIMER, TBRL, Panjab University and Stanford University.
Centre of Excellence in Industrial and Product Design, Co-ordinator Prof. Parveen Kalra highlighted the importance of this workshop. The event was inaugurated by
Dr. Manoj K. Arora, Director, PEC University of Technology who appreciated the efforts of Prof. Parveen Kalra and the importance of inter-disciplinary research work carried out by his team for the development of the country. The workshop started with an in-depth analysis and review of the current industry trends. The experts from medical industry included Dr. Nitin Jain and Dr. Rahul Datta who discussed their experience and thoughts on the potential use of 3D printing in healthcare. The current and future technologies were discussed to great length by Mr. Ankur Jain (Maverick Solutions Pvt. Ltd.). The participants were provided with hands-on training on the medical design process by the research scholars of CoE which was thoroughly enjoyed by them.
At the end a special lecture was delivered by Dr. Vidya Rattan (Head, Oral and Maxillofacial Dept., PGIMER, Chandigarh) who highlighted the contribution of Prof. Parveen Kalra and discussed his experiences with CoE in forwarding this technology to PGIMER, Chandigarh as a tool for properly handling complicated cases.
