The third session was conducted by Dr. Vijaya Girdhar (Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh) on “Stress Management Through Emotional Freedom Techniques.” Dr. Girdhar explained that EFT is a simple technique that can be done by anyone, anywhere, and at any time. It involves tapping on specific points on the face, torso, and hands while focusing on a negative emotion or physical sensation. As you tap on each point, you repeat a statement that acknowledges the issue and affirms your self-acceptance. This is called the "setup" phase. Then, you continue to tap on each point while repeating a reminder phrase that focuses on the issue. This is called the "tapping sequence." The entire process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several minutes, depending on the intensity of the issue and how many rounds of tapping are needed. He further added that the EFT has gained popularity in recent years, and there is evidence to suggest that it may be effective in reducing anxiety, depression, and other emotional issues. However, more research is needed to fully understand its effectiveness and to identify the mechanisms behind its therapeutic effects.
All the sessions ended with a formal vote of thanks, and the Head CMH, Dr. Anju Singla and the faculty CMH presenting token of gratitude to the eminent speakers. Around 300 students, faculty members and research scholars attended and participated in the sessions. The students found the session immensely insightful and looked forward to attending similar sessions in the future.
