Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) and Student Counselling Cell organised a talk on 'Developing our Inner Potential for success through yoga and meditation' by Swami Lalitananda Giri on 11th September, 2017 at PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh. The event was graced by Dr. Manoj K. Arora, Director, Sh. Maniash Jindal , Registrar , Dr. Divya Bansal , Head Career Development and Guidance Centre , Vivek Attray, former IAS officer, Dr. Suman Beri, Professor emeritus, Deans, HoDs and other faculty members and students.
Dr. Suman Beri threw light on the life and achievements of the founder of Yoga Satsangi Society (YSS) Swami Paramhansa Yoganandaji. She highlighted the aims, activities and the history of the organisation, which now has an international presence. She emphasized on the concerted efforts of the organisation to encourage simple living and the cultural and spiritual understanding between the east and west.
Swami Lalitanandaji began his address by drawing a parallel between the human body and the power plant. Through this analogy, he underscored the importance of recognising our inner potential, developing it and eventually achieving success. He stressed that the only way to develop potential is through the power of concentration. He narrated several stories and anecdotes to support his view. 'You can only think of miracles when your mind is capable of the power of concentration', he quoted while explaining his point through one of the stories of Swami Paramhansa. He further explained the development of concentration by controlling the rate of breathing, which could be achieved through the practice of Kriya Yoga.
Lastly, he provided a brief insight on some of Swami Paramhansaji's teachings like will power, overcoming bad habits, dealing with stress and most significantly, the power of Karma and the consequences of one's past deeds. He also encouraged the audience to visit the YSS book display that was setup outside the auditorium.
The event witnessed a jam packed auditorium and undoubtedly encouraged everyone to tap the inner potential and thus achieve success in life.
