A special cell for the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes has been inaugurated at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh on 19th May 2023. The Inauguration of the newly established cell was done by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, in the presence of Col RM Joshi, Registrar PEC, Prof. Balwinder Singh, Coordinator SC/ST Cell, Prof. Sushant Samir, OSD, Prof. D.R. Prajapati, Dean Student Affairs and other members of the committee.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, emphasised that the establishment of an ST/SC cell is critical in order to protect the interests of SC/ST students and employees and to ensure equal opportunities. He also mentioned that the SC/ST cell will play an instrumental role in working for the welfare of PEC students, teachers, and the non-teaching community. On the occasion, he presented books based on the life and teachings of Dr. B.R Ambedkar, an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and the father of the Indian Constitution.
Prof. Balwinder Singh, Coordinator SC/ST Cell, mentioned that the purpose of the cell is to resolve the problems of the students, faculty and staff members belonging to the SC/ST categories and to remove difficulties which they may be experiencing. The cell will continuously implement, monitor and evaluate the reservation policies and plan measures for ensuring the effective implementation of policy and programmes of the Government of India.
