Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh organized an Interactive Refresher training session by Sh. Naveen Joshi, Regional Manager- Business Services (GeM) for the faculty members and the staff from various departments of the Institute.

The session was inaugurated by Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Chandigarh Administration. He also inaugurated the new Office of Dean Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy, PEC.

The Refresher training session coordinated by Sh. Sudhir Prashar, DC (F&A) PEC, started with a welcome note by Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia, Director, PEC. He highlighted the importance of awareness regarding the aspects and issues related to the GeM portal and its use. The session continued with Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, apprising the present members regarding the importance of financial education and awareness. He also focused on the importance of spending money responsibly and mindfully for the institutes and promptly without compromising on the quality of products and services. He offered all possible financial support from the Chandigarh Administration to make PEC an Institution of National Importance.

The session progressed with Sh. Naveen Joshi’s presentation on GeM and its various aspects. The session included the role of GeM, and its functions and also focused on the details of using GeM as a buyer and a seller. He focused on how to make efficient use of the platform for the purchase of goods and services. The importance of going through the important notifications while using the portal as a buyer. He enlightened the present members about their rights to complain against buyers if they face any issues regarding the quality of the product, or services and also welcomed their suggestions to make the platform more user-friendly. The presentation was followed by a question-answer session from the members present.

The session ended with insightful suggestions by Col RM Joshi, Registrar, PEC on the use of Gem. He highlighted the importance of user review of the product and services on the platform and the significance of starting the process of procurement on time. He presented a memento to Sh. Naveen Joshi expressed his gratitude for the educational session.

Recent Research Activities

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with IEEE Region 10, IEEE Chandigarh SubSection, IEEE Delhi Section and Galgotias University, hosted an International Workshop on "Best Practices in Educational Activities Workshop" in hybrid mode ideated by IEEE R-10 Education Activities Committee. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

The Semiconductor Research Centre, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering conducted a week-long Advanced workshop on ‘Semiconductor Device Design, Fabrication and Characterization’ in technical collaboration with IEEE Chandigarh Subsection and ISSE Chandigarh Chapter. Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS and Adviser to the Administrator was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony.

Civil Engineering Department, in association with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (Department of Space) Dehradun, organized one day workshop titled “Open Source Geospatial Products in Disaster Management.” The primary mandate of the workshop is to create awareness about the various free available software for digital mapping used in disaster management. Participants from Chandigarh Administration, Fire department, DGRE attended the workshop.
