Punjab Engineering College, successfully concluded a comprehensive week-long Orientation Program aimed at welcoming and empowering 839 fresh students enrolled in various B. Tech and B. Des program.
The Orientation program was orchestrated under the guidance of Dr. D. R. Prajapati, Dean Student Affairs (DSA) and Dr. Puneet Chawla, Associate Dean Student Affairs (ADSA). This program was meticulously designed to facilitate students’ seamless integration into their new academic environment, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles while aligning their aspirations with the core values championed by PEC as an esteemed institution.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC. Prof. Setia extended a warm welcome to the students and reassured them of a promising future within the institution's nurturing environment. Prof. Setia highlighted PEC’s rich legacy and encouraged the students to embrace learning as a continuous flame.
He emphasized the availability of state-of-the-art centers on campus, including the Siemens Centre of Excellence, Cybersecurity Research Centre, and Semiconductor Research Centre. Prof. Setia encouraged students to make the most of these facilities.
The program further included introductory sessions by Deans and Heads of Departments, common sessions for all courses, and departmental activities. The highlight of the event was a series of insightful speaker sessions featuring prominent speakers such as Dr. Sheetal Sharma, Mr. Sofi Zahoor, Mr. Somveer Singh Anand, and Mr. Vivek Atray. These luminaries shared words of wisdom, motivation, and guidance to inspire the new batch of students.
During the orientation sessions, students had the opportunity to explore the campus, interact with faculty members, senior students, and staff. Each department hosted special sessions to acquaint newcomers with their respective disciplines. Seniors organized enjoyable activities, including
Cultural clubs curated a diverse range of performances including Medley and a Skit portraying Punjabi Household by Punjabi Editorial Board (PEB), Monologues, UV Light Dance performance, and a political satire by DRAMS. The Music Club also contributed with a melodious musical performance.
The week-long event also showcased technical projects, including a Human-powered Exploration Rover, an Electric Vehicle designed by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Drones and hovercraft by the Robotics Society, PECGPT by ACM, Fingerprint-Based EVM by IEEE, Transparent ceramics and Mg-Zn Bioimplant Material by Indian Institute of Metals etc. The week-long programme concluded with a fun quiz session for the new students.
The Orientation Program's main objectives were to facilitate a seamless transition for newcomers, introduce them to the College's mission, programs and services, and acquaint them with campus resources to enhance their academic success and overall college experience.
Overall, the Orientation program left the incoming students enthusiastic and optimistic about embarking on this new chapter of their academic journey.
