Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, commenced its Industry–Academia Expert Lecture Week (February 23–27, 2026) with a series of thought-provoking sessions aimed at bridging academic learning with real-world industry practices.
As part of the initiative, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted an expert lecture on “Power Trading and Working of Energy Exchange” by Mr. Rajeev Sapra, DGM (Retd.), Delhi Transco Limited. The session offered valuable insights into the functioning of India’s electricity markets, including organized power exchanges such as the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). The speaker elaborated on mechanisms like the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and Real-Time Market (RTM), highlighting demand-supply balancing, price discovery, and grid stability through real-time scheduling and bidding processes.
The week also featured an engaging session on “IoT and Smart Devices: Connecting the World for Better Decisions” by Dr. Ravinder Singh, Head of Digital and Systems Team, Government Commercial Function, UK Civil Services. The lecture focused on data-driven governance enabled by IoT, detailing the four-layer IoT architecture and presenting Barcelona’s Sentilo smart city platform as a case study demonstrating efficiency, sustainability, and cost optimization.
Additionally, the Department of Chemistry organized a talk on “3D Printing Technology” by Mr. Anmol Khurana, Director, KAD Enterprises, Chandigarh. The session highlighted the transformative role of additive manufacturing in modern product development, emphasizing its ability to create complex, application-oriented components through layer-by-layer fabrication.
The lecture week reflects PEC’s continued commitment to fostering industry exposure, interdisciplinary learning, and practical knowledge among its students.
