Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh joined the Republic Day celebrations by the U.T. Administration at the Parade Ground in Sector 17, Chandigarh. Shri Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Adviser which was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour. After the unfurling of the national flag, tableaus were presented.
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), which has been the home to many personalities who have contributed significantly to nation-building efforts, presented a tableau titled “Naari Shakti” that consisted of our alumni and professors to support women's empowerment. PEC has nurtured the growth of women who have proven their mettle in various fields. The Tableau portrayed Palak Mahajan, an alumna of PEC, who was presented with the President's Plaque for being the best all-around officer of her batch at the Air Force Technical College, Vanya Mishra, winner of Femina Miss India, 2012. Malika Verma, Jasmine Bansal, and Amisha Bansal, students of the Engineering Batch of 2022, who were awarded gold medals by the President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, for their outstanding academic performance. The tableau also depicted Dr. Vasundhara Singh (a professor in the applied science department of the college who published her research on a drug as a possible cure for cancer).
The second half of the Tableau depicted Kalpana Chawala’s rocket. In 1982, Kalpana Chawla completed her degree from the Department of Aerospace Engineering (PEC) and flew to become the first Indian woman in space. This tableau also demonstrated Dr. Vandi Verma, who is the operating head for the Mars rover, at NASA. The back of the tableau presented a placement graph of the females at PEC over the past 5 years.
Striving towards innovation and growth, Punjab Engineering College has hosted several International Conferences over the past year, where women students and keynote speakers actively participated. PEC has always promoted the participation of women in cultural as well as technical activities.
