Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with great fervour and enthusiasm on January 26th, 2022. Celebrations this year had great significance as the theme of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated marking 75 years to the nation’s independence, as well as being the centennial year of the college, marking the completion of 100 years of the institution.
The event commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by the Director of PEC, Prof. Baldev Setia alongside the national anthem. The event was graced with the presence of guests, PEC Faculty and students, following all COVID protocols and constraints. This was followed by the Director’s address in which Prof. Setia recollected the independence struggle and the sacrifices made by freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Prof. Setia also highlighted the institute's vision moving forward as well as recent achievements of the college that include flagging off the centenary celebrations with a visit by the President of India, Sh. Ram Nath Kovind, signing MoU’s with eminent institutions and companies, and a recent international conference on Industrial and Manufacturing systems (CIMS-2021). This was followed by a collection of cultural performances, prepared by the students of Punjab Engineering College. The entire event was virtually streamed on the official youtube channel of the college, for our students, alumni, guests and other online viewers.
Punjab Engineering College also prepared a Republic Day Tableau based on the theme of centenary celebrations and the completion of 100 years of foundation of the college. The tableau was showcased in the official republic day celebrations of the UT Administration held in the Sector-17 parade ground. The republic day tableau highlighted the journey of the college over these 100 years and various achievements and milestones of the college.
