The Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC), at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh successfully organized the annual flagship event OPEN HOUSE 2025, on 24th April, 2025. Since its inception in 2010, this event serves as a vibrant platform to inspire and guide young minds from across the tricity.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sh. Rubinderjit Singh Brar (PCS), the Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, also an alumni of PEC (Batch 1992, Civil) along with esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Prof. JD Sharma (Head, CDGC), and all the Deans, Heads, staff and 300 students approximately from various schools of the tricity.
This 16th OPEN HOUSE-2025 invited school students from tricity to experience the dynamic world of engineering and innovation through an immersive, guided campus tour. Students got a chance to explore the cutting-edge laboratories, advanced research centers, and state-of-the-art facilities across all departments of PEC.
Prof. JD Sharma (Head, CDGC), delivered the introductory remarks and cordially welcomed the visiting schools, and the dignitaries present in the inaugural ceremony. In his address he also expounded on the institution's initiative and the expected outcomes of the 16th Open House 2025. He also provided an overview of the working and activities of the CDGC. A video showcasing the achievement, activities and opportunities of PEC was also shown.
Further, Director Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, provided insights on the importance of this event. He also encouraged all the school students to make the best out of this opportunities. He asked them to keenly observed all the research and laboratories facilities of PEC.
Chief Guest Sh. Rubinderjit Brar shared his nostalgic feeling of being back at his own alma mater. He shed light on the various initiatives taken by back to encourage the research minds. He did his B.Tech (1988-92) and M.Tech (1992-94) from here. He said that he had become energetic after seeing a curiosity and passion in the eyes of these young students. He encouraged them to interact with students, faculty, and must enquire about the technology and research from them. He also remarked that, In life, you must take decisions, you must experiment in life and your dreams are valid, your potential is limitless and your future starts now.
The event also featured detailed presentations by faculty members: Prof. R.S. Walia, Head, Workshop and Skill Development Centre (Centre of Excellence in Siemens), shared an insightful overview of PEC’s modern laboratories and the Production & Industrial Engineering Department. Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, offered an engaging presentation on the Semiconductor Research Centre (SRC), captivating students with cutting-edge developments in the field.
One of the key highlights of the event was the project showcase—where innovative and interdisciplinary projects developed by PEC students are presented to the visiting students. These projects offered a glimpse into the practical application of engineering knowledge and the problem-solving mindset nurtured at PEC.
Whether it’s exploring robotics, AI, sustainable energy solutions, or structural design, OPEN HOUSE 2025 sparked curiosity, provided career guidance, and fostered early exposure to the vast world of science and technology.
