Padma Bhushan Jaspal Bhatti Cultural Evening was organised at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh by Punjab Engineering College Old Student Association (PECOSA) on 21 April 2023. Prof. Dr. Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest of the ceremony and Mrs. Savita Bhatti, was the Guest of Honor. Prof. Baldev Setia, Director-PEC, Er. Teekam Chandra Bali, President-PECOSA, Er. H.S Oberoi, General Secretary PECOSA also graced the occasion with their presence.
The Event started with a lamp lighting ceremony by the esteemed dignitaries present, followed by Er. Teekam Chandra Bali, President-PECOSA formally extending a heartiest welcome to chief guest, guest of honour, Director PEC, PEC alumni, faculty members, students of PEC.
The event progressed with a musical performance by the batchmates of Er. Jaspal Bhatti in his memory followed by dance, play and qawwali performances by the students.
Mrs. Savita Bhatti in her address mentioned that PEC has played a major role in the life of Shri Jaspal Bhatti as this place gave him the platform to explore his talent and gave wings to his dreams. She further extended her gratitude to PEC, PECOSA and friends of Mr. Jaspal Bhatti for keeping him alive by annually organising Jaspal Bhatti Cultural Evening. She motivated the students to always follow their passion and take challenges.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, complimented the organizing team for getting everyone together for such a wonderful evening. He stated that PEC can proudly say that our esteemed alumnus Jaspal Bhatti is one of history’s finest satirists who made us laugh while also leaving an indelible mark on our thoughts.
Prof. Dr. Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and an alumnus of PEC talked about her journey of becoming an engineer at PEC. She mentioned that PEC has produced great engineers, researchers, bureaucrats, and unique personalities like Mr Jaspal Bhatti. She encouraged the students to keep their hobbies, interests and talent alive by actively participating in extracurricular activities. She motivated them to give their best in all the spheres of life and wished them luck.
The session progressed with distribution of various Scholarships to the meritorious students by PECOSA. The event ended with a much awaited bhangra performance by the students.
