A lecture on Cognitive Robotics was organized at PEC University of Technology on 30th April 2015. Prof. Puneeta Arora of Electrical Engineering Department introduced the speaker Dr. Er Meng Joo. Dr. Meng Joo who is currently a full professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. Professor Er also Serves as Editor-in - Chief of 2 international journals. He has won the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2011 and numerous other awards.
Dr. Meng Joo started off with the discussing the problem of ageing population in Singapore and other European countries as a motivation for developing field of Cognitive Robotics. Giving an overview of the robotics field he discussed various types of robots and 4D's and 4A's of Robotics. He mentioned how even the advanced robots such as Wakamaru and Honda Asimo were not intelligent enough to interact with humans. He then discussed the advancements in Cognitive Robotics and gave examples of Beer Selecting Robot and Robotic Violinist.
He concluded his lecture stating there is vast scope of the field of Cognitive Robotics and encouraged the students to pursue their PhD in the same.
Director Dr. Manoj Arora thanked the speaker for his informative lecture and ensured the students that institute will fully support any project in the field of Cognitive Robotics.
