The Career Development and Guidance Centre of Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh, in association with IIT Roorkee, Uttarakhand and IIT Ropar, Punjab organised an informative session on “Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and Joint Admission test for Masters” on 4th October, 2023 for all the B.Tech. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students of PEC who are aspirants of higher education.
Prof. Deepak Kumar Ojha from Chemical Engineering Dept., IIT Roorkeeand Prof. Pushpendra P. Singhform Physics Dept., IIT Ropar graced the event with their presence. Prof. Pushpendra P. Singh started the session with an insight about GATE, itsimportance in higher studies as well as its benefits for eligibility in PSUs jobs. He has also highlighted that GATE qualification is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations like DRDO, BARC, ISRO etc. which can motivate students to pursue excellence in higher education. The session was continued by Prof. Deepak Kumar Ojha who provided a detailed analysis of the GATE exam and shared brief information about the latest subjects which have been added to the syllabus. He has briefed on the two-paper criteria, current marks distribution, marking scheme and other eligibility criteria. It was mentioned that GATE score is accepted as a valid substitute for the GRE as an entry-level criterion for abroad universities like NSU Singapore, TU Munich and therefore students can also pursue masters from some foreign universities.
Both the speakers guided and motivated the student at the end with an interactive session covering GATE exam related queries by the students.
Prof.In-Charge, Dr. Poonam Saini, was the chairperson of the session and lastly expressed her gratitude to the experts from IIT Roorkee and IIT Ropar for engaging such an informative session and which also aligns with the motive of assisting students with information about the pathways towards their career development. Dr.Ankit Yadav and Dr. Sudesh Rani coordinated the whole event. Both the conveners, Dr. Sarbjit Singh and Dr. M.P Garg, assisted in organising the session.
