The Department of Civil Engineering, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh, today concluded the HYDRO 2022, the 27th International Conference on “Hydraulics, Water Resources, Environmental and Coastal Engineering” under the aegis of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH), Pune.
Sh. Rajinder Singh was the chief guest of the Valedictory session. Sh. Rajinder Singh, the waterman of India is working on water-related issues and is awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2001), Jamnalal Bajaj Award (2005), Stockholm Water Prize (2015) and Ahimsa Award (2016), among many others. The session started with Prof. Baldev Setia, extending a warm welcome to the chief guest.
Sh. Rajinder Singh while addressing the audience mentioned that to solve the global problems related to water and climate change we need to go local and we need to learn from the experiences of local people and indigenous people of our nation. He also highlighted that we need to act with realisation and learn from the experiences of people on the ground to rejuvenate the rivers of India. Community sense needs to be awakened with science and engineering to solve the water issues. He also mentioned that we need science and engineering that nourishes nature and not extract from it and the need of the hour is to work together for sustainable development. He congratulated PEC and all the organising committee members for organising such an informative conference and creating a platform for people around the country to share ideas to solve the water issues.
Baldev Setia, Director PEC while addressing the audience congratulated the organizers for receiving such an overwhelming response and taking the HYDRO conference to the next level.
Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu and Prof Mohit Kumar (Organising Secretary) in the concluding note of HYDRO 2022 shared the 03-day journey of the conference. The three-day conference had 25 technical sessions and two Plenary Lectures by the best of minds in the fields. For the conference 500 entries from various IITs, NITs, IISC and reputed institutes were received, while after strict scrutiny around 300 research papers were selected for the conference.
The Session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Umesh Sharma, Prof & Head CED & Chairman HYDRO 2022.
