Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, hosted the "Vicharsetu - The Path of Introspection" followed by "Faculty Award Ceremony- 2024". The event was graced by Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, an eminent industrialist, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Trident and Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) of PEC. He was the Chief guest of the event and the first speaker of “Vicharsetu”.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC; Prof. Uma Batra, Dean Faculty Affairs; and Col. R.M. Joshi, Registrar, PEC, were also present, along with the entire faculty of the institute.
The ceremony began with a floral welcome of the distinguished chief guest. Prof. Uma Batra opened the event by highlighting the essence of Vicharsetu - The Path of Introspection, which she described as a bridge for thoughts to freely flow from a visionary to the aspiring mind.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia extended a warm welcome to Shri Rajinder Gupta and invited the Chief Guest, Shri Rajinder Gupta, for addressing the faculty.
Shri Rajinder Gupta began by praising PEC for its glorious legacy and exceptional academic standards. He commended the faculty and students for their remarkable contributions and reiterated the need to further elevate the institution's reputation. He proposed the need for recalibrating PEC and developing an ecosystem to align with the socio-economic needs of society and the nation. He emphasized creating an environment where faculty and students engage with industry, government, and market forces to gain valuable experience. He urged the faculty to strive to make PEC a center of excellence and support for stakeholders, encouraging open discussions for technical and environmental advancements that would contribute to PEC's resurgence as a leading institution. He also opened the forum for discussion with faculty and took their suggestions for uplifting the institute
Following the insightful session with Shri Rajinder Gupta, the event proceeded to the much-anticipated Best Faculty Award Ceremony 2024. Dr. Shimi S L, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering Department of PEC, was felicitated for her exemplary achievement of receiving National Award of Teachers from the Ministry of Higher Education, Govt. of India on 5th Sep '2024. Besides, 42 faculty members were recognized for their performance in research fund mobilization, research publications and patents, consultancy, and book authorship. Three faculty members were recognized for being listed in the top 2% cited scientists. Dr Sarita Singla, Associate Dean Faculty Affairs delivered a vote of thanks to the chief guest and the faculty.
