The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, inaugurated a six-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Hands-On Training, Research Aspects & Demonstration in 5G Use Case Lab", sponsored by AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy.
The event was graced by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice-Chancellor of Chandigarh University and former Director, AICTE, along with Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Head of ECE and Co-Coordinator), Prof. Sanjeev Kumar (Head of Physics Department), and Dr. Simranjit Singh (Coordinator).
Dr. Simranjit Singh warmly welcomed Prof. Manna, renowned for his expertise in electrical engineering, to the portals of PEC. He introduced the FDP and highlighted its significance in providing hands-on training and knowledge enhancement for participants. Dr. Singh encouraged participants to seize this opportunity to refine their skills, particularly through demonstrations and experiments in PEC's cutting-edge 5G Use Case Lab. The lab’s facilities include a 5G 24U Rack, radio testing stations, a 5G drone, antenna mounts, and a 5G camera, among others.
Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Head of the ECE Department, emphasized the workshop’s focus on 5G applications and their relevance across emerging fields. He outlined topics such as the National Education Policy (NEP), Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G technology, and research opportunities, including AI and ML applications in 5G, LiFi technology, and advancements beyond 5G. He also mentioned the significance of PEC's Semiconductor Research Center. The hands-on sessions will include the use of Netsim software to simulate 5G architectures in diverse environments and Optisystem software to design and implement core networks for 5G and beyond.
Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Head of the Physics Department, and coordinator Continuing Education Program, congratulated the organizing team and the ECE Department. He encouraged participants to actively engage and make the most of this exceptional opportunity to deepen their knowledge in 5G, 6G, and networking technologies.
Prof. (Dr.) Manpreet Singh Manna delivered an engaging and insightful address, providing an in-depth overview of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Through his interactive session, he dispelled myths and misconceptions, compared traditional and modern pedagogical approaches, and illustrated his points with real-world examples.
The FDP will feature expert lectures on diverse topics, including IoT devices, 5G/B5G-enabled healthcare connectivity in rural areas, 5G-based UAVs, LiFi technology, and security in 5G and beyond. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit STPI Mohali for industrial exposure. The panel of expert speakers includes eminent academicians and professionals such as Prof. Swades De, Prof. Jyoteesh Malhotra, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Baban Bansod, Prof. Akhilesh Mohan, Prof. Sakshi Kaushal, Mr. Madhukar Tripathi, Prof. Satyam Agarwal, and Prof. Ashwani Sharma.
The workshop is under the patronage of PEC Director, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, with Dr. Simranjit Singh serving as the primary coordinator, and Prof. Arun Kumar Singh as the co-coordinator.
