The Student Counselling Cell of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh organized an awareness session on International Day Against Substance Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Dr. Manoj K Bajaj, Department of Psychiatry, GMCH-32, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as an expert speaker. The event was organized with an aim to provide insights to the students about substance abuse and its side effects in life. The event started with a floral welcome of the chief guest by Dr. Jaimala Gambhir.
Dr. Manoj K Bajaj started the session by enlightening the students about the stages of substance use, substance abuse and how substance abuse is a tragic cycle of self-destruction. He focused on the negative impacts of drug abuse on our physical health, mental health and its social consequences. He further mentioned that to help someone recover, it is very important to create a supportive and understanding community. He motivated the students to opt for a healthy, happy life and also encouraged them to raise awareness in their surroundings.
The session ended with Prof. D.R Prajapati, Dean Student Affairs presenting memento to the chief guest. The event was attended by around 100 volunteers who found it really interesting and informative.
