The Aerospace Engineering Department of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, today organized a Memorial Lecture on “Flow Control Strategies in Air-Breathing and Space Propulsion Systems”in loving memory of its star alumnus, Dr. Kalpana Chawla.
The session started with the dignitaries giving a floral tribute to the heroic Dr. Chawla. Following this Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head of the Aerospace engineering Dept., extended a floral welcome to the Chief guest and other dignitaries. While extending his welcome to the audience, Dr. Rakesh informed that the department has been organizing Dr. KalpanaChawla's memorial lectures annually since the year 2018. He also highlighted the importance of these lectures which provide a forum for dynamic academic debates and the exchange of innovative research ideas in the field of aerospace.Dr. Shashi Bhushan Verma was the guest speaker for the event. He has worked at NAL, Bangalore and has an expertise on flow-separation associated side-load development in liquid rocket engines and freestream jet interaction in powered missiles. Having taught Kalpana, Dr. SC Sharma was an apt guest of honor for the event. Colonel RM Joshi also graced the event with his presence.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, extended a very warm and delightful welcome by reminiscing about the academic commonalities amongst all the dignitaries and hence calling it a magical day of coincidences. Dr. SC Sharma also gave an enlightening address to the gathering and shared his personal interaction experiences with Dr. Kalpana. He inspired the young minds to achieve the target while dreaming high like Kalpana.
Dr. Shashi Bhushan delivered an insightful and enriching lecture on “Flow Control Strategies in Air-Breathing and Space Propulsion Systems”. The lecture highlighted the extensive research going on in the aerospace domain. He gave deep insights into flow control strategies and the designing of advanced rocket nozzles. Dr. Verma discussed the challenges and future prospects of aerospace research in depth. The session continued with a question-answer session and interaction with the student and faculty members.
The session was concluded with a vote of thanks. The lecture was attended by students, faculty members, and research scholars of PEC. The audience found the session immensely insightful and enlightening.
