Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh proudly observed the 77th Independence Day on 15th August 2023 with fervor and enthusiasm, encapsulating the essence of the theme "Nation First Always First”.
The Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia hoisted the National Flag followed by the National Anthem, at the PEC campus in the presence of the students, faculty, staff members and PEC residents.
A spectacular display of discipline and unity unfolded with the NCC Parade, capturing the essence of patriotism which was followed by technical display featuring an Electric Vehicle (EV) ingeniously designed by the students of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and two speedy cutting-edge robotic cars presented by the Robotics Society showcasing future of mobility and technology.
The atmosphere lit up with awe and excitement as tricolour balloons painted the sky during the release of Balloons.
Following this, Prof. Baldev Setia delivered an address, shedding light on India's history and freedom struggle. Director Setia shared a profound quote, honoring the sacrifices of the freedom fighters whose indomitable spirit paved the path to India's liberation:
वतन को फिर कहीं गिरवी न रख देना वतन वालों
शहीदों ने बड़ी मुश्किल से आज़ादी दिलाई है |
He further highlighted the institute's accomplishments over the past year which include launch of new academic programs - B. Tech in AI, B. Tech in VLSI, B. Des at UG level, M. Tech in Quantum Physics at PG level, research collaborations with IIT Roorkee, IIT Mandi, TBRL, and the comprehensive faculty recruitment process carried out in the previous year. He underscored the institution's thriving research partnerships, spotlighting the Aerospace Department's collaboration on a significant project with the Indian Air Force. Additionally, Prof. Baldev Setia acknowledged Dr. Roop Lal Mahajan's substantial contribution through a generous grant to the institute.
He lauded the efforts of Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Head, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, for his role in fostering research collaborations and D.R Prajapati, Dean Student Affairs for organizing a range of cultural and technical events. Additionally, he expressed gratitude towards CDGC, Estate Section, and Alumni Section, for their valuable roles in advancing the institution's success.
Concluding with a resounding call to "Think Globally and act locally," Director Setia the motivated the audience to continue their dedicated efforts for the nation's progress.
The Director’s speech was followed by captivating series of performances that showcased India's rich cultural diversity. The event featured speech by students of English Editorial Board (EEB), an enchanting Music Performance by Music Club, a reflective Poetry recitation from Hindi Editorial Board (HEB), a captivating performance by DRAMS, an introspective Monologue, and the exuberant Bhangra performance by Punjabi Editorial Board (PEB).
The celebrations ended with the distribution of tea and sweets to all the faculty members, students and staff.
