Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) began the commemoration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav - to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence- with enthusiasm and gaiety. The Institute organized a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ in the early morning on 13th August 2022.
Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia, Director PEC flagged off a group of estimated over 400 students, faculty, staff members and PEC residents from the PEC administrative block towards Bougainvillea Garden in Sector-3. The director and the registrar led the spirited PEC-group by walking alongside them.
Keeping their Tricolours aloft, the animated NCC and NSS volunteers in the forefront chanting the slogans of Vande Mataram, Jai Hind and Bharat Mata Ki Jai - imparting the much-needed impetus to the lively procession, the group proceeded towards the War Memorial.
At the War Memorial in the Bougainvillea Garden, everybody paid their homage to the deceased jawans who sacrificed their lives for the country; the Director, Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia honored the memory of the gallant soldiers by placing a wreath at the memorial site which was followed by the National Anthem chorused in unison by one and all!
Marching back to PEC, the director thanked all the participants, especially lauding the organizing committees for their verve and fervor in making the event outstandingly remarkable. Thereafter, refreshments and fruits were served to all at the PEC-Guest House.
To commemorate the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, PEC students had planned and lined up numerous events from 10th August onwards. Students’ clubs and societies have organized Independence Day Quizzes, Picture Tales- Independence Day centric essay writing competition, poster making competitions, creative competitions of art, poetry and writing and so on. A special screening of the movie- Shershaah is scheduled to be held at the PEC auditorium on 13th August 2022.
The Institute will be celebrating the 76th Independence Day at the campus on 15th August 2022 by hoisting of the National Flag by the director, rendition of the National Anthem and then followed by a cultural performance by the students.
