Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh joined the nation in celebrating the 76th Independence Day on 15th August 2022, with grandeur, gaiety and enthusiasm.
The Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia hoisted the National Flag followed by the National Anthem, at the PEC campus in the presence of the students, faculty, staff members and PEC residents. Post that, the National Cadet Corps paraded in honour of the nation with petals showered by a Quadcopter built by the robotics club, PEC. The event was followed by the display of an SAE BAHA racing event car designed from scratch by the students of the Society of Automotive Engineers, PEC and tricolour balloons to commemorate the 76th Independence Day were released.
Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia, Director addressed all the attendees on the occasion and motivated the youth to keep working incessantly for the betterment and progress of the nation. He emphasized continuing the legacy of our heroes that they have left behind, and the need to contribute to the betterment of the motherland in every way possible. He also reminded people of the immense struggles and difficulties that our freedom fighters went through to get India its freedom. The Director’s speech was followed by a speech from the students of the English Editorial Board and a display of the remote-controlled Airship created by a team from the Aerospace Technical Society (ATS) for the Airship Regatta competition, hosted by IIT Bombay.
Moving on to the cultural events, various clubs performed with all their heart. The Music Club dedicated patriotic songs to the nation and it was followed by a poetry performance from Hindi Editorial Board. Women Empowerment Cell and Projection and Design Club put up a wonderful presentation on the role and journey of powerful women in the nation since India’s Independence.
The Dramatics Club presented a musical sequence highlighting the importance of honouring the past struggles of our freedom fighters. The Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell put up a presentation to show how India and its start-up culture have evolved over the years to its modern-day stature. The Punjabi Editorial Board performed a monologue followed by an energetic Bhangra performance. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony aided by the table-shaped bot prepared by the robotics club to felicitate the winners for all the events that were organized to commemorate Independence Day Celebrations week.
Punjab Engineering College to mark the spirit of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav scheduled numerous events from 10th August 2022 onwards. Student clubs and societies organized Independence Day Quizzes, Picture Tales- Independence Day-centric essay writing competitions, poster making competitions, creative competitions of art, poetry and writing, Prabhat Pheri and Rang de Basanti Art Competition for the wards of residents of PEC.The celebrations ended with the distribution of tea and sweets to all the faculty members, students and staff.
