EED of PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh organised the 4th J. K. Arora Memorial Lecture. It is an annual lecture organised by the Department, to honour the memory of Late Prof. Jagdish Kumar Arora. This annual Lecture series was instituted by Prof B.M Arora in the memory of his brother late Prof J K Arora, ex-faculty, Electrical Engineering Department, PEC. He was a prominent academician, devoted to research on Earthing System.
The Event was graced by the presence of Dr. Manoj Arora, Director PEC, Dr. Renu Vig Director UIET, Mrs. Asha Arora (wife of Late Prof. J.K. Arora), Dr. Tarlochan Kaur, HOD, Electrical Engineering Department ,faculty members and ex-faculty members.
Prof. Enakshi Bhattacharya, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras, was the expert speaker. She talked about Micro Electro Mechanical Systems and their application in various fields like aerospace, automotives and the medical industry. She discussed the fabrication of pressure sensors and their sensitivity, MEMS accelerometers, micromachining, MEMS differential capacitors, silicon based biosensors, integration of various engineering fields with biology and detection of triglycerides, EISCAP to measure pH and use of electrodes to cure retina damaged blindness.
She apprised about the currently running National Programme on Micro and Smart Systems (NPMASS) with the basic aim of creating awareness in India about MEMS and Smart Systems. She elaborated on NPMASS programme under which design centres with commercial MEMS software tools have been set up in educational institutes across India and fabrication of the designed structures is also facilitated with the hope that more and more people will take up work in this dynamic field.
It was a very enlightening and engrossing lecture. Over 300 UG/PG students from Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science Departments were present. Prof. Raminder Kaur, delivered the vote of thanks.
