Celebrating its continued excellence in the field of technical education, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh hosted its 46th Annual Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, 22nd October, 2016 at Inderdhanush Auditorium, Sector 5, Panchkula. The ceremony commenced with an Academic Procession lead forward by the Chief Guest Padam Bhushan, Sh. Analjit Singh, Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Max Group, Sh. Som Mittal, Chairman Board of Governors, Prof. Manoj K. Arora, Director PEC University of Technology, Sh. Arun Grover Vice Chancellor, Punjab University, Sh. Manish Jindal, Registrar PEC University of Technology and other dignitaries. Succeeding this, PEC Anthem was sung which left the graduating batch nostalgic about their journey at PEC.
Total 377 students received degrees across the eight B.E. programmes, 223 students received degrees across the fourteen M.E. programmes. In addition, 15 candidates were awarded Ph. D degrees. A number of meritorious students, including 10 gold medalists and 11 silver medalists were also honored during the ceremony. Students were also decorated with other awards, including Kalpana Chawla Memorial Gold Medal, Aditya Miglani Memorial Gold Medal, Charu Mehta Memorial Medal, Sarvnipun Chawla Memorial Award, Administrator's Gold Medal, Advisor's Gold Medal and Charu Puri Award for their distinguished performance.
The ceremony was declared open by Sh. Som Mittal. Prof. Manoj K. Arora, the Director, then presented the Annual Report. He welcomed the Chief Guest, BOG members, Senate members, dignitaries, faculty, staff and students. Further, he applauded the efforts of the institute's Training and Placement Office. He informed the gathering that PEC students had bagged an unprecedented 100 per cent placement with 115 recruiters round the year including a number of start-ups that visited the campus in 2015-16. In addition, he highlighted the initiatives and achievements of the University for the past academic year. The Director also expressed his gratitude towards the alumni for their continuous support.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman, Board of Governors, Sh. Som Mittal congratulated the recipients of degree and the awardees and emphasized to create their own individual style that would bring success and more importantly happiness. He inspired the new graduates to enter the workforce or the next phase of studies with passion and zest to become active and determined participants in society for the nation. He further added, "As you succeed in life do also think of the value that you add to the society."
In his address the Chief Guest, Sh. Analjit Singh cited various examples like the successful collaborated effort at reducing the Ozone layer depletion insinuating the essence of working in harmony and secularism. He suggested to explore new options following graduation, in context to which he remarkably stated "Act, Move on, do not end up in analysis". He congratulated the graduating batch and motivated the students to grab the opportunity to exercise free choice out of their own will. He quoted "Lives are not planned in advanced, but rather assembled from the pieces of your passions." He emphasized on the trends and opportunities that would be encountered during this journey and would be crucial in taking decisions such as The Digital Wave and Revolution, Urbanization, preference of lifestyle during old age, etc. He emphasized on the importance of team work and quoted, "The best things in world happen only by combined and collective action." He concluded by wishing students luck and encouraged them to make their parents, the institute and the country proud.
Followed by which, the degrees were distributed and the newly graduated students took a pledge administered by Dr. Arvind Kumar. Sh. Som Mittal declared the ceremony closed and the Academic Procession joined the choir in reciting the National Anthem. It is hoped that the passing batch colors the skies with their worthy innovations and achievements and carries on the legacy of this glorious institution.
