The Department of Physics offers a strong academic foundation through its core courses, including three compulsory courses for B.Tech first-year students, along with a variety of open electives such as Quantum Physics, Solid State Physics, and Physics of Solar Photovoltaics and Technologies. The Physics Department has started one Minor specialization in Quantum Technologies. This specialization will train the students in the upcoming Quantum Revolution. Any student of any branch can opt for this specialization from 3rd semester onwards. Recently, we have been selected under the National Quantum Mission to establish an Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory in Quantum Technologies. We are among 23 Institutes selected under the National Quantum Mission. The Department is supported by well-equipped laboratories that provide hands-on practical training, ensuring a balance between theory and application. In addition to teaching, the department actively promotes research leading to a Ph.D. degree in areas such as ferroelectrics, multiferroics, batteries electrodes, waste-management, thermoelectric materials, advanced functional materials, and nanomaterial-based devices for environmental and healthcare applications. With a dedicated team of experienced faculty members, the department continues to foster academic excellence, innovation, and scientific growth among its students.
