Summer Courses Fee Waiver to underprivileged students

TEQIP II- Key Activity 8 – Academic Support to weak students

The following activities are being carried out at PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh under TEQIP II- Key Activity 8 – Academic Support to weak students.

  • Half Fee waivers to underprivileged students undergoing summer term courses:  Half fee waiver was granted to 114 students belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and physically handicapped categories; during summer term 2011-12 amounting to a sum of Rs. 1,99,500/-.
  • Remedial extra classes for students on Academic probation: As per decision of the Senate in its 51st meeting held on 08.01.2013 ( Agenda item Number 51.4) 20 % extra classes are being held for weak students (the students on Academic probation) of B. E. first year in 14 courses. The students are required to attend 80% of these extra classes in addition to the attendance requirement for normal classes. These classes are being held beyond normal working hours of the institute. The faculty involved will be compensated as per institute norms from TEQIP-II funds. An estimated amount of Rs. 1,05,000/- shall be spent on this remedial teaching.
  • Course in Communication Skills: A course of 30 hours duration on communication skills for students of PEC University of Technology is being run in batches of 25-30 students. Currently the course is being run for the second batch of students. The course contents include modules on basics of communication skills, importance of listening, improving speaking skills, preparation for an interview and group discussion, CV writing, making power Point presentations and Technical report writing. No fee is being charged from the students to attend this course. An amount of Rs. 31,000/- is being spent on one run of the course.
