Abstract

The project aimed to develop and optimize Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) technology for use in the agricultural and automotive industries in India. The objectives included studying the mechanical properties of ADI, developing cost-effective production processes, and evaluating its potential applications in Agricultural and Automotive Industry in India.

Output/Outcome of the Project
Output/Outcome of the project

Five ADI grades have been successfully developed in the ADI Pilot Plant. The structural and mechanical properties characterization of the ADI grades have been investigated.
A fully automated ADI Pilot Plant of 200 Kg gross capacity has been established at PEC. The facility is operational, and its design is scalable for commercialization.
ADI Combine fingers, ADI Rotavator Blades and ADI Tyne Blades have been successfully developed, using different ADI grades. Their field testing and comparison with existing counterparts has proven that ADI components have ~1.3 times higher life than forged and heat treated components. ADI Vehicle Front Tow Hooks have been successfully developed and delivered to Industry.
