PEC signs MoU with SBN Pharma Tech.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) and SBN PHARMA TECH today i.e. Oct 22, 2020 engaged in the presence of the Director, Deputy Director, Deans, Registrar and company representatives. SBN PHARMA TECH engaged in focused Trading and Contract manufacturing firm, in marketing of APIs.

MoU between the two organisations has been signed recognising the importance of research and development in the areas of Drug Discovery particularly as antimicrobial agents for improvement in quality of life, as well as offering industrial exposure to academic institutions. The MoU has been signed with the primary purpose to strengthen the research and development in Drug Discovery particularly as antimicrobial agents for improvement in quality of life, meet the needs of the respective populations, and to enable the medical fraternity to control the diseases by using the effective drugs in India.

“The future lies in India becoming self-reliant in the areas of New chemical entities (NCE) as Anti- microbials to address the issue of multidrug resistance” said Dr. Dheeraj Sanghi, Director PEC. He also expressed his profound happiness that industry has come forward to pick up the brains of the top faculty members and research expertise of the research group from PEC and the collaboration can make a significant impact in the areas of drug research. “The Pandemic has further posed new challenges for the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry to become self reliant and overcome our dependence on China for key starting materials (KSM) and Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients ( API) as relies our market share in these two important areas” said Mr. Suyog jain ( Managing Director) and Vardhman Chemtech Ltd.

The signatories to MoU from PEC were: Dr. Dheerj Sanghi, Director, Dr. Divya Bansal, Dean Alumni, Corporate & International relations and Dr. Vasundhara Singh, Professor, Dptt of Chemistry and from SBN : Mr. Sharvan Bhatt, Mr. Suyog jain ( Managing Director) and Vardhman Chemtech Ltd. (Contract manufacturing site of SBN Pharma tech LLP).

The research and other collaborative activities will be led by Dr. Vasundhara Singh, Professor in the Department of Applied Sciences who leads the Organic synthesis and catalysis research group at PEC. She is actively involved in the last 20 yrs in Drug development and Green Chemical Technologies to address important societal issues. Design and synthesis of New chemical entities (NCE) as Anti- microbials to address the issue of multidrug resistance and targeted anti cancer agents are key areas of research of interest to the pharmaceutical Industry. In the area of Green chemical Technologies the development of alternate solvents as replacement to VOCs, catalyst development for valorization of waste biomass to value added chemicals as future bio-refineries, solar photo catalytic wastewater treatment for fine chemical and pharmaceutical industry and energetic ionic liquids as explosives for defense applications. The research group has published several papers and patents in the related areas.

Several Research and development activities in the priority areas mutually established by both the organizations have been planned under the MoU. This includes visits by, and exchanges of, scientists and technical experts, Creation of scientific and researcher training networks; practical training of PEC students at operational sites and offices of SBN; product development, improvement of technology and transfer of technology and many more.

98th Foundation Day

PEC has completed 98 wonderful years since it’s foundation in 1921. A celebratory event was organized to mark the foundation of the college. The Chief Guest for the event was Director, PEC, Prof. Dheeraj Sanghi.
