Engineers Day Celebrated At PEC

In India, every year, 15 September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in the memory of Bharat Ratna awardee Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He was an eminent scholar, statesman and  chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagar dam in Mysore as well as the chief designer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad. To commemorate the event, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE PEC) Student Chapter organized a lecture at PEC.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Hemendra Singh Gusain, who is an eminent scientist at Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (DRDO), Chandigarh and Treasurer, Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Chandigarh Chapter.

He discussed importance of advanced Geospatial techniques like Remote Sensing/GIS/GPR and digital mapping in cryosphere. He also deliberated on the role of civil engineering in cryosphere studies and shared his experience and challenges while working in cryosphere. Dr. Gusain also encouraged the students to join societies like Indian Society of Remote Sensing, which will help students to know the latest advancements and projects in Civil engineering.

This lecture was attended by Faculty Incharge Prof HAS Sandhu and more than 40 students. Prof HAS Sandhu, highlighted the various aspects of the life of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and also presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Gusain.
