Goals (Road Map 2008 -2013)

            New Initiatives and Future Vision based on Road Map For Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University), Chandigarh (2008-2013)- (approved by BOG vide resolution No. 20.4 of meeting held on 18.07.2008):

    By 2013, PEC DU wil stive to achieve the following:

    • Increase the student strength to 1.5 times the existing strength (2008).
    • Undergo expansion by offering new programs of BE, ME, MBA, dual degree etc. in emerging areas.
    • Take initiatives to increase the faculty strength to 1.5 times the existing.
    • Take initiatives to rationalize the staff strength by increasing at certain levels and outsourcing at other levels.
    • Increase the sponsored research and consulting turnover to 5 times that in the year 2007-2008.
    • Award 20 PhDs annually.
    • Publish an average of two conference papers and /or one refereed journal paper per faculty per year.
    • Strive to achieve the student teacher ratio at a level of 10:1.
    • Strive to achieve average teaching load per faculty to 8-10 hours per week.
    • Engage with industry and alumni through annual meets in each department.
    • Set up one award/chair and one sponsored academic activity in each department supported by the industry/alumni.
    • Organize one short course and one workshop/seminar/conference by each department every year.
    • Send at least ten percent of PEC students for an overseas exchange program.
    • Organize 2 to 3 finishing schools in identified areas to help employability of youth.
    • Undertake 5 city initiatives every year and offer solutions for recurring urban problems.
    • Undertake department level rural initiatives or affirmative action for helping the underprivileged through skill development /knowledge development.
    • Organize networked programs will regional institutes on an annual or once-in-two-years basis.
    • Raise the additional funds required (estimated at Rs. 50-70 crores non-recurring (plan) and Rs. 10 - 15 crores recurring (non-plan)) through support of the government, industry, alumni and by running self financed programs.
