PECFEST 2017: Day 1

The annual cultural and technical fest of PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh PECFEST 2017 began with a bang today on 27 October 2017. Known for keeping quirky themes, this year was no different with “Go Viral” being the tagline and the campus scattered graciously with cute minions in all forms.

Day one began with the festive fervour in the air, adrenaline through the veins, and the crowd bubbling with excitement.

Following the tradition, the fest kick-started with The Mini Marathon - 'The Run for Cancer’, with students in vibrant PECFEST T-Shirts. It was flagged off at 6:30 in the morning by Prabhakar Singh Pundir, alumni of PEC, who lost both his legs due to an unfortunate train accident, despite which he continues to be a cricketer for the UT Team, and came up as a role model who inspired people to look past their challenges and believe in themselves. The event was also graced by the presence of the Director, PEC – Dr. Manoj K. Arora, the DSA – Dr. Perminderjit Singh. The six hundred seventy student participants could be seen all along the road to Sukhna Lake, jogging and running for a cause.

The ball was set rolling with some good theatre in Drama Rama, which saw around ten college teams, while the creativity and intellect was put to test in interesting writing and speaking contests.

The technical enthusiasts enjoyed their share of events, ranging from technical quizzes to a canoe building event and coding contests and even a treasure hunt that had clues that required some brain wracking questions to be solved. A twelve hour, all night long Hackathon event too saw a lot of participation. Dr.Vivek Prakash from HackerEarth conducted a technical workshop that guided them about ethical hacking.

Therapeutic, calm and relaxing events, such as dart painting and monochrome painting meanwhile continued in the Meta Parking.  An interesting addition to the list of events was the Speed Dating, which seemed to draw unusually high attention. Bazm-e-Shayari which saw over twenty participants, was a hit among the participants.

Yahya Bootwala, an extraordinary poet known for his poems that are honest and hit right home, conducted a poetry session with the students.

We expect the next two days to be as sensational as the first!
