The discipline of Production/Manufacturing Engineering has undergone revolutionary changes in the past decade in its objectives, philosophy and methods. The present emphasis is on integration of design, manufacturing and management functions in the productive systems for producing quality products/ services conforming to international standards in the most economic manner. As a result of a wide use of computers and micro-electronics for achieving flexibility in Manufacturing systems, a host of new courses such as CAD/CAM, Robotics, FMS, Computer Aided Inspection & Testing have been included in the curriculum of Production Engineering at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Curriculum of Production Engineering at Punjab Engineering College has been designed to build a sound knowledge base in the from of theoretical and practical inputs supplemented with thorough awareness of industrial problems and their solutions by providing 26 weeks of Industrial Training during Sixth semester and Industrial projects during Seventh and eighth Semester.
The students of Production Engineering are exposed to all most all the techniques of Industrial design, Manufacturing Processes to convert the designs into useful products/ services and Management Techniques such as SPC, TQM, ISO 9000 etc. to ensure productivity, quality and flexibility in the operations systems where they shall be employed.
