1949 Alumnus, Dr Awtar Singh's Book Launch (Feb15, 2011)

“DRIFTWOOD”, a book written by Dr. Awtar Singh, alumnus of PEC University of Technology (1949 batch, civil engineering) was launched on 15th February in the college auditorium. Dr. Awtar Singh first addressed the faculty of the civil engineering department of the college and then had a question answer round with the students of the department.
Describing the book, Dr. Awtar Singh, a PhD from University of California (1966), said, “My life oscillates at two extremes, sometimes I feel I don’t have control over my life and sometimes I feel I am the master of it. All I am hoping is that the episodes of the book will oscillate in your [life] too”.
“This book is not an autobiography of someone but it is about pre-partition and after partition life of the people”, said Mr. S. Chakrawati, the publisher of the book. The book combines the gripping nostalgia of an NRI who was twice unsettled-once from his native village Lyallpur to India, and then from India to USA- with an outstanding commentary of his later day life in India and then the US.
Dr. Manoj Datta, Director of PEC University of Technology, said in his speech that he admired the book immensely. Brig.  (retd.) Gobinder Singh was the chief guest.  The chairman of BOG, Padam Shree Chander Mohan ji and HOD civil, Prof. N.P. Devgan were also present alongwith other faculty members. In the end momentos were presented to the honorable guests by the Director, Dr Manoj Datta.
