Admission to Ph.D. Programme:
Applications are invited for admission to Full-time/Full-time Sponsored/Part-time Ph.D. Programme in the disciplines of Applied Sciences (Area- Chemistry- Environmental Chemistry and Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Organotin chemistry, Humanities- Management & Finance, Mathematics- Algebra and Number Theory , Topology, Geology- Spatio-temporal monitoring of Glacier using remotely sensed data & G.I.S. techniques), Civil (Area- Water Resources System, Sub-soil Flow, Water Quality & Modeling, Environmental Engg., Traffic and Transportation Engg., Geotechnical Engg., Geo-Environment, Construction Tech. & Mgmt., Highways) Computer Sc.(Area –Wireless Networks and Information Security, Cyber Forensic), Electronics and Electrical Communication (Area- Fiber Optics and Digital Design & Communication Engineering), Mechanical (Area- Advance Manufacturing Processes, Materials & Manufacturing, Quality Control, TQM, Work Study & Ergonomics), Metallurgical (Area- Biomaterials, Corrosion Behaviour of materials, Design and Properties modification in ferrous & non-ferrous materials, Physical & Mechanical Metallurgy, Production (Area- Advanced manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, CAD/CAM, Automation, Welding).
Last date for receipt of application in the Institute is 12.01.2009.
1. Categories of Scholars/ Admissions
- Full-time non sponsored.
- Full-time sponsored.
- Part-time candidates.
Financial aid/ assistance ship may be granted subject to availability of grants from PEC/UGC/ DST/ CSIR etc.
2. Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Admission
For Fulltime Non-sponsored Scholars:
Minimum eligibility:
1. Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in Science/ Humanities/ Management or equivalent in relevant discipline with 60% marks in aggregate for general category.
2. The candidate must have a valid Gate score or must have been admitted to the M. Tech. programme with a valid Gate score. For admission to Ph.D. Programme in Science/Humanities/Management the candidates must have a NET (UGC/CSIR) Fellowship from the current year in relevant areas.
Selection basis: Written test and interview
For Fulltime Sponsored Scholars:
Minimum eligibility: Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in Science/Humanities or equivalent in relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category. These candidates must have served with the sponsoring organization for a minimum period of 2 years on a full-time basis. The sponsoring organization needs to provide and undertaking as per Note 5.
Selection basis: Written test and/ or interview.
For Part-time Scholars:
Minimum eligibility: Same as for Fulltime Sponsored Scholars. The candidate must provide a No Objection Certificate from the employer as per Note 6.

NOTES:

15 % seats are reserved for SC candidates and 7.5 % seats are reserved for ST candidates. There may also be reservations for OBC as per MHRD guidelines at the time of admission.

For SC and ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5 % in the minimum aggregate marks in all categories of scholars.

There will be no minimum requirement of aggregate marks for SC and ST candidates possessing 8-year experience as an employee of an organization as envisaged in Note 6.

Seats as per Institute norms are reserved for the physically handicapped persons in all the Ph.D. Programme combined. The selection for these seats is held centrally.

Sponsorship letter (on letterhead of the sponsoring organization) should include an undertaking stating that the period of study will be treated as ‘on duty’ with usual salary/ allowances, and he/she will be relieved for the period of studies and all fees will be paid by the organization.

Only employees of Public Sector Undertakings or Government Departments or Research Development Organisations or Private Industries with their own in-house R & D approved by DSIR, and the faculty of an educational institution will be eligible for sponsorship. A Part-Time Ph.D. scholar should produce a ‘No Objection Letter’ from its employer stating that (i) He/she is a full-time employee of the organization, (ii) He/she is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis, and (iii) His/her official duties will permit sufficient time for research.

Full-time, non-sponsored candidates coming on study leave must show proof of at least 3 years study leave before being allowed to register.

CGPA is cumulative Grade Point Average. For the purpose of admission at PEC, the following conversion Table will be used to convert percentage of marks into GPA

The minimum prescribed percentage will be based on the marks obtained in aggregate of all the years/semesters of the qualifying examinations as per the weightage followed by the concerned University.

The relevancy/ equivalency of M.Tech degree for admission to a given discipline will be defined/ determined by the concerned RDC.

ONE-TIME (At Admission only)

Student services : Rs. 5000
RECURRING (Annual)
Tuition Fees etc. : Rs. 5000
Other facilities & services : Rs. 9000
SECURITY (Refundable) : Rs. 5000
The facility and services fee will not be payable by students who are pursuing the programme on a part-time basis.
ADDITIONAL FEE FOR HOSTEL FACILITIES AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION:
Refundable security : Rs. 4000
Hostel fees (Annual) : Rs. 7000
Hostel & mess establishment charges (Annual) : Rs. 5000
Mess advance : Rs. 2000
Total additional sum payable for hostel facilities : Rs. 18000
